The
Sikh Gurudwara of North Carolina as an organization came into being
in 1983. A group of Sikh families in North Carolina realized a need
to establish a Gurudwara in our state where we could establish a Sangat
and Pangat. Gurudwara is a Threshold to Divine Illumination. Sangat
is where everyone gathers to learn the values of human life, and Pangat
is where we practice those values. At Sikh Gurudwara of North Carolina
we strive to learn the Sikh Faith as taught by Guru Naanak Ji.
The
Gurudwara facilities were inaugurated in 1986, and this white brick
building has served our community for over twenty years. The congregation
meets every week at least twice where we learn and sing the Glory of
God, and we share our blessings with others.
Our
mission is simply to provide the facilities in the state of North Carolina
for learning and practice of Sikh Faith, and to share information about
Sikh people with the people of North Carolina so that we all can be
informed and productive residents of this great Tar Heel state.
Members
of our community are professionals in many fields including medicine,
engineering, information technology, and education, among others. Our
children attend various local univeristies, technical colleges, and
grade schools.
If
you would like more information about Sikh Faith, please feel free to
visit our Gurudwara Saheb during any of the regularly
scheduled programs.
