SGNC Gurmatt Class Rules

SGNC Gurmatt Classes are managed by SGNC Education Committee. This committee is governed by SGNC By-laws and is accountable to SGNC BOT and BOD. Under no circumstances any of the rules of Gurmatt Classes or other activities can violate SGNC By-laws or wishes of BOD or BOT. SGNC BOD and BOT, in turn, are bound by The Sikh Reht Maryada of Akal Takhat Saheb. Which means that Gurmatt Class rules must conform to SGPC Reht Maryada.

  • Enrollment
    • Students must register for classes, and must be placed using Assessment Exam (no new students are permitted to start mid-term, and no students can advance to next level in mid-term except in extreme circumstances)
    • Assessment Exams determine student placement in appropriate level of study and advancement after completion of term
    • Students must maintain at least 60% class attendance
    • Students must turn in all homework assignments completed
    • Students not attending at or above 60% will need to turn in all homework to maintain enrollment status in school
    • Students not turning homework will be dropped from curriculum - BUT we still encourage parents to continue to obtain materials from us and have children work independently
  • Class Behavior
    • Classes are held at SGNC at scheduled times
    • Emails are sent announcing class times
    • Late arrivals may be turned away from class
    • Students must cover their head completely during class
    • Boys must wear a turban to class, and girls are required to use a patka under their chunni
    • Because we frequently use Gutkas, all students must remove shoes while in class
    • Students may not use inappropriate language or gestures in class
    • Clothes with objectionable writings on them will not be permitted
    • Disruptive behavior will result in expulsion from class
    • We promote "Be respectful to be respected" philosophy
    • Maximum Gurmukhi speaking is encouraged, and children will be stopped from conversing in English frequently in class
