SGNC Langar
Guru
Ka Langar is one of the first institutions started by Guru Naanak Dev
Jee. Langar is food prepared by volunteers and served free to the congregation.
It signifies the equality of all humans as all comers to Gurudwara Saheb
regardless of their background sit at the same level and eat the same
food from same kitchen prepared by the same people. This simple practice
was revolutionary at the time it was started by Guru Naanak Jee when Indian
society was highly stratified by a suppressive caste system.
At SGNC, senators,
house representatives, mayors, university professors, and other dignified
guests of SGNC have sat with the rest of the congregation of Sikhs and
non-Sikhs to share Langar that prepared by each week by volunteers and
served free to all. This tradition is followed all across the world wherever
Sikhs establish a Gurudwara.
